About Us

The Woman's Club of Lincoln was established in 1911 and is the oldest social club in Lincoln. We are a fun group of enthusiastic ladies from diverse backgrounds who come together to socialize and involve themselves in their community.

Our Mission: To unite the women of Lincoln and neighboring areas to promote educational, social and community involvement.

The 2024 Non-Profit Organization of the Year!

The Woman's Club of Lincoln was recently named the "Non-Profit Organization of the Year" at the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce's 2024 Business Excellence Awards & Installation Dinner. Board President Nancy Dunavent, Board Vice President Mandie VanBuren, and Community Building Director Vicki Reliford attended the dinner to accept the award.

History of The Woman's Club of Lincoln

  • In 1911, the women of Lincoln, led by Carrie Gladding, banded together over the Woman's Suffrage Movement. That group evolved into the Woman's Club as a social organization for the ladies of Lincoln.

  • In March of 1912, this local women's group joined the State Federation of Women's Clubs and chose the red rose as their flower symbol.

  • During WWI, they worked with the Red Cross and knitted socks for the solders and planted over 100 trees on Industrial Blvd. for Lincoln Veterans.

  • Along with these good deeds, they also had a section in the First St. Cemetery for members and were instrumental in securing a site for a future grammar school.

  • As the club grew and the need for a clubhouse was evident, Walter Jansen, a city councilman, donated portions of the original lots, #15 & #16 in the heart of the city.

  • Mrs. Carrie Gladding, other club members as well as residents of the city donated fund and the construction of the clubhouse was completed in January 1924.

  • The years from 1912-1975, the club women received awards from the State Federation for work in Fine Arts, Music, Crafts, Literature, Cultural Heritage, Citizenship, Community Improvement, Civil Defense, Veteran Affairs and Youth Conservations, plus many others.
